Diabetes Type II
You are not alone…
A survey from the year 2000 found that 39,000 American children had type II diabetes, and and nearly 2.8 million have impaired fasting glucose levels. These numbers were reported in Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine in 2006. It is likely that the numbers are much higher today. The high blood sugar characteristic of diabetes causes damage to blood vessels and organs. Patients with diabetes are at increased risk for heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and blindness.
Conventional medicine has its place…
Conventional medicines can be lifesaving in emergency situations and can control symptoms for many people. Unfortunately, they do not address the underlying cause of the symptoms. In addition, some medicines have serious side effects that make their use undesirable.
You do have options…
Many people do not realize there are options in addition to conventional medicine that will actually make them better. By addressing the underlying causes of type II diabetes, patients experience reductions in symptoms, improvements in overall health, and reduced dependence on medications.
There is hope…

What do you do for patients with type II diabetes?
In type 2 diabetes, the body makes insulin, at least to some degree. But the cells throughout the body are not adequately sensitive to the insulin. It is possible to reverse type 2 diabetes. Our treatments generally involve adopting a blood sugar-stabilizing diet, losing weight, and improving fitness. These, along with classical homeopathy and nutritional supplements, increase insulin sensitivity, improving blood sugar control.
Each patient’s plan is individualized – we have never found a “one size fits all” approach to be useful for the majority of people. We spend one to two hours with a new patient on the first visit to make sure we understand very thoroughly what is going on in your child’s body. We also spend time in follow up visits to make sure that healing is progressing as well as possible.
Homeopathy:
Homeopathy is part of the name of our practice because we believe so strongly in its power to cure disease. Homeopathic care involves the thorough evaluation of each patient’s exact symptoms. A single remedy is chosen that matches the subtleties of each case of disease. The remedy given restores balance to the many systems of the body that keep us well. [Read more about homeopathy.]
Diet:
Diet is critical to the treatment and management of type II diabetes. We focus on establishing a blood sugar-stabilizing diet, losing weight, and improving insulin sensitivity.
Supplements:
Depending on your child’s exact condition, we may recommend one or more nutritional supplements. These will help to improve insulin sensitivity and increase antioxidant status in the body. Antioxidants help reduce the damage to the body caused by free radicals and high blood sugar. We use supplements that have strong support in the medical literature.
What about my medications?
Conventional medicines can be lifesaving for diabetic patients. Patients with Type II diabetes might be able to reduce their medications by correcting their underlying sugar metabolism issues. Many medicines have serious side effects that make their use undesirable.
At Asheville Natural Health & Homeopathy, our programs improve your child’s health on a fundamental level. Healthy bodies need less medication. Our goal is always to reduce or eliminate the need for medications, and we are generally successful.
Please don’t ever discontinue a medication without the consent of your physician, as that could be dangerous or uncomfortable.

Diabetes is a condition that is controlled with permanent lifestyle changes. We will generally be able to get you on track in between four and eight visits. After that, we will follow up periodically to make sure you stay healthy and continue to lead a healthy lifestyle. Visits may be weekly or bi-weekly at first, becoming less frequent as your health improves. Follow up visits will last 30 minutes to one hour, as they involve coaching and counseling as well as homeopathy.

Supplements may be required at an additional cost. We try to keep supplements to a minimum, but our patients typically spend $25 or more per month on supplements.
